Hi there I'm Luca ๐
Hi ๐, I am Luca Corbucci and I work as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) in Trento ๐ฎ๐น where I am part of the Machine Translation Unit led by Luisa Bentivogli. I am currently working on Multimodal LLMs, specifically on the training and post-training of Speech LLMs.
I completed my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Pisa ๐ฎ๐น under the supervision of Prof. Anna Monreale and Dr. Nicolas Kourtellis in July 2025. During the PhD, I worked at the intersection between Artificial Intelligence and Safety. Specifically, I focused on Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning, Model (Un)Fairness, and Explainability. However, I am attracted to new technologies. Therefore, I am also open to working on different and innovative topics.
In the last few years, I have led international research collaborations, including a 1-year research internship with Telefรณnica Research and projects with Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz that led to 3 publications to ACM FAccT.
Education #
๐งโ๐ I received a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science in 2018 and a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science in 2021 with the thesis โSemantic enrichment of XAI explanations for healthcareโ. In 2019, I spent one semester at the Computer Science Department of the Technische Universitรคt Mรผnchen ๐ฉ๐ช as an exchange student thanks to the Erasmus program.
In 2021, I started my PhD at the University of Pisa. During the PhD, I spent 12 months as a Research Intern at the Telefonica Research Center in Barcelona ๐ช๐ธ. I am grateful to have been supervised by Nicolas Kourtellis, Mikko Heikkila and David Solans. During this period, I worked on Private and Fair Federated Learning under the Spatial EU Project.

Podcast and Communities #
๐ I have always been attracted to communities. Between 2013 and 2015, I worked as an editor for Biteyourapple.net, writing more than 1,000 posts, recording videos and participating in the Bitecast podcast. I am the PointerPodcast co-founder. PointerPodcast is a podcast about technology and innovation. We have published more than 280 episodes since its creation in 2019. In most of them, we interview software engineers and researchers from academia and industry. Lately, I have founded two communities. The first is Superhero Valley, a community that tries to fill the gap between university and industry. It does this by providing awareness of the opportunities offered by big tech companies to students. The second is Pisa.dev a local community that organizes meetups for developers and computer scientists in Pisa ๐ฎ๐น.
๐ฆ In my free time I enjoy acting as a critique about books and TV shows.
